The collaborative efforts of Sandfall Interactive, Kepler Interactive, and Laced Records aim to release Lorien Testard’s groundbreaking score from the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on both vinyl and CD formats.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve found myself utterly captivated by this 6LP box set meticulously curated by Lorien to pay tribute to the game’s three-act structure. The playlist is a brilliant fusion of tracks from the original soundtrack album and bonus materials, with an impressive array of in-game mixes seamlessly integrated throughout. What truly sets this collection apart is that each track has been carefully mastered exclusively for the vinyl format, ensuring an unparalleled listening experience.

In the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the music plays a crucial role in conveying the emotional story that has captivated many players. Most of the tracks were composed and recorded in Lorien Testard’s home studio, while some were also performed and recorded by the renowned Curieux Orchestre at Midilive Studios in Paris.

Lorien’s first score artfully complements the game’s Belle Époque ambiance with its music. Notably, recurring themes in «Alicia» and «Lumière» are seamlessly integrated into the gameplay, evoking the emotions of the characters – their sorrow and hope – as well as the enchanting quality of Lumière.

At the core of the music’s charm and power lies the enchanting vocal melodies of Alice Duport-Percier, who serves as the lead voice and emotional soul in many of the vocal tracks in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Accompanying Duport-Percier are vocalists Victor Borba, who lends his voice to «Bury the Light» from Devil May Cry 5, and mezzo-soprano Axelle Verner. Ben Starr, known for his work as a versatile voice actor, also sings on the poignant track «Until Next Life».

The digital soundtrack that has maintained the top position on Billboard’s Classical Chart and Classical Crossover Chart for six weeks running, showcases the potent narrative ability of Lorien Testard’s music. Consequently, the tangible versions of «Clair Obscur: Expedition 33» are essential musical companions for any explorer, role-playing game enthusiast, or aficionado of video game music.
